First Grade Fundamental Camp 2025 (For registered children entering 1st Grade in September 2025) Join Utica Community Schools in a Family Partnership for Learning! Camp Locations: Beacon Tree Elementary Crissman Elementary Dresden Elementary Flickinger Elementary Jack Harvey Elementary Havel Elementary Camp Dates & Times June 23, 2025— August 1, 2025 Monday—Friday 8:30 a.m.—12:00 p.m. No session on Thurs. 7/3/25 or Fri. 7/4/2025 First Grade Fundamentals targets literacy and math development for students entering First Grade with identified needs in literacy and math based upon district benchmark assessments. Students will be engaged in daily literacy experiences through interactive and meaningful activities. Transportation will be provided for in-district families. Breakfast and lunch will be provided free of charge for students. All participating students will receive a learning kit prior to camp. The kits are designed for: Children books Writing Journals Pencils Rhyming cards Practice books Markers Alphabet Cards Crayons Magnetic Letters Glue & Scissors Online registration will open on Monday, April 28, 2025 and will close on Fri-day, May 16, 2025. Registration spaces are limited. District Benchmark Assessment results will be considered to determine placement. Placement confirmation will be sent by Friday, May, 30, 2025. Learn from high-interest, science-based texts focused on developing craft, structure, vocabulary, and using knowledge and ideas. Engage in STEM activities and experiments focused on developing rich content knowledge and a love for scientific exploration. Design and explore science concepts through an inquiry and investigative approach and framework. Online registration will open on Monday, April 28, 2025, and will close on Friday May 16, 2025. Registration spaces are limited. District Benchmark Assessment results will be considered to determine placement. Placement confirmation will be sent by Friday, May 30, 2025. Camp Locations: Beacon Tree Elementary Crissman Elementary Dresden Elementary Flickinger Elementary Jack Harvey Elementary Havel Elementary Camp Dates & Times June 23, 2025 – August 1, 2025 Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. No session on Thurs. 7/3/25 or Fri. 7/4/2025 The Summer Scholars Program is an instructional school-based program targeting literacy and math intervention for students entering Grades 2-5, with identified needs in literacy and math based upon district benchmark assessments. Students will be engaged in comprehensive and meaningful literacy and math instruction using evidenced based practices to address their individual needs. The goal of the Summer School Program is to accelerate student growth in literacy and math. Transportation will be provided for in-district families. Breakfast and lunch will be provided free of charge for students. Program runs Monday through Friday 8:30 – 12:00 p.m. Daily attendance is required for all participating students. Literacy Areas of Instruction - Phonological Awareness, Phonics, Comprehension, Fluency, Vocabulary, and Writing Components of the Literacy Workshop: Literacy Workstations, Whole Group, Small Group, and One-on-One tailored instruction in Reading and Writing Literacy Framework: Modeled and Shared Reading, Guided Reading, and Independent Reading. Modeled and Shared Writing, Interactive Writing, and Independent Writing. Social Emotional Learning (SEL) – Literacy Mindset Mathematics Area of Instruction – Grade Level Concepts with a focus on number sense and mathematical fluency Math Framework – Number sense routine, activities, games, choice time, and math mindset activities.
