Future Athletes Academy
Sports Camps
Future Athletes Academy is BRAND NEW and ONE OF A KIND. This class is what to do before official teams and/or activities start for your child. This class is offered for current kindergarten and 1st grade students for the 2023-24 school year. The premise of Future Athletes Academy is to give boys and girls an opportunity to learn and develop skills, strength, agility, and coordination (and more!) in a fun and rewarding environment. Future Athletes Academy is taught by Gary Chapp. Gary has taught elementary physical education in Utica Community Schools for 24 years and has coached 55+ different seasons in his 25 years as a coach in youth, junior high, and high school athletics. Future Athletes Academy is not specific to one, single sport. Instead, this class is designed to teach and develop skills and concepts that translate to most sports and activities - it’s like a head start for your “Future Athlete”. Because children inherently enjoy physical activity and challenges, this class is also perfect for just about any student this age. Skills and concepts being taught include: movement; agility; strength; hand-eye coordination; balance; throwing; tossing; rolling; tracking; catching; soccer dribbling and kicking; basketball dribbling and shooting; hand striking; striking with equipment; teamwork; sportsmanship; personal best; and more! With so much to cover, Future Athletes Academy is divided into 3 sessions throughout the school year – Fall, Winter, and Spring. Each session will follow a similar format but will include different learning opportunities. Course fee includes a $10.00 fee for t-shirt. IMPORTANT NOTE: sessions may be combined depending on enrollment.

Team placements and Game Schedules Specific times and locations will be communicated by Dec 31st. We will place players on teams with kids from the same school when possible. Buddy requests will be taken during the first two training dates. Our goal is to schedule the K-2 training sessions/games early in the day (between 9am-12pm) and have the other divisions follow. K-2 Grade COED Division Specifics This division will have a modified hoop height (7ft, 8ft, or 9ft rims). Players will be divided into teams based on skill levels and his/her ability to shoot on the various heights. K-2nd Grade Games Coaches will start each session with an individual/team drill. Games will consist of six 4-min quarters with a running clock. We will NOT keep score. Coaches will be on the court teaching and reinforcing teaching points throughout the game. 3rd-6th Grade Division Specifics Divisions are based upon enrollment. If we do not have enough players to create multiple teams for each grade level, we will structure the divisions as 3rd/4th and 5th/6th. We will use our training sessions to determine if some players need to move up/down a grade level based on individual skill level. If enough girls enroll, we will create GIRLS ONLY teams. This division plays on regular height baskets (10ft). If your third grader needs a modified hoop height, they may be placed on a team with 2nd graders and follow the K-2nd grade schedule. 3rd - 6th Grade Games Coaches will start each session with an individual/team drill. Games will consist of four 8-min quarters with a running clock. Clock will stop in the last two minutes of the game. We will keep the score.
