PLEASE BE AWARE THIS COURSE CONTAINS THE SECOND SESSIONS FOR ALL UTICA DANCE CENTER CLASSES
Our Classes:
Hip-Hop
Hip-Hop is a high energy class that has its roots in street dance and uses Popular Pop and Hip-Hop music to create a fun atmosphere! Classes focus on rhythms, personal expression, and dynamic movements while improving technique and building confidence. Hip-Hop is a continually evolving style of dance, which is seen in music videos, commercial work, and many social media accounts.
Pom
Does your dancer love watching halftime shows at football or basketball games? Then Pom is definitely the class for them! Pom combines strong and sharp arm movements with fast paced dancing to create a dynamic routine!
Lyrical/Contemporary (8-18)
Lyrical/Contemporary is an expressive dance form that combines ballet, jazz, and modern technique. Choreography is focused on self-expression and performance style.
Creative Movement (3-4)
Creative movement introduces young children to dance through imaginative play, props, and interactive music! Kids explore basic dance concepts while practicing turn-taking, sharing, and following directions--all in a fun and playful environment!
Ballet (5-11)
Ballet training will focus on proper body placement, alignment, posture, and fluidity of movement. Ballet will help maximize technique and flexibility, all while learning technique and terminology. Ballet will introduce dancers to the five positions, piles, and other beginner appropriate skills. Dancers will use the barre, center floor, and across the floor to work on their technique.
Ballet/Tap (4-6)
Combo classes are a great choice for our new dancers, as it introduces them to a basic classroom structure while having fun and learning about dance! Dancers will learn beginner ballet terms and positions, and beginner tap rhythm and timing.
Tap
Our tap classes will cover rhythm, timing, coordination, and proper tap technique. A mind-to-foot connection will help students progress to get them ready for our future Intermediate Classes. Students will learn basic technical skills, such as shuffles, flaps, paradiddles, pickups, and cramp rolls. They will also learn how to listen to and understand the music as it connects with the sounds of their taps.
Jazz
One of the most popular and well-known forms of dance, Jazz. It's a fun and high-energy class that includes technique, strength, and flexibility. Our classes will start dancers off with a center floor warmup and stretch, followed by skills done across the floor. Dancers will learn their splits, right and left leaps, beginner jumps, and turns, as well as fun combinations to put all of their new skills together. Older dancers will add to combinations weekly, as well as learn new ones to keep this class at a faster and more upbeat pace.
COMPETITION TEAM
Recital: Our June Recital will be dependent on the ongoing enrollment of each class. We will need to maintain enough students throughout the year in order to successfully put on a show. Thank you for your understanding!
Instructor permission required - please inquire for audition information.
Our UDC Competition Team is for dancers who want to take their training up a level, with a chance to focus on more challenging technique and choreography, as well as gaining additional performance experience. We focus on giving our dancers the tools to not only improve their dancing, but to improve their self-confidence and personal growth as well.
Competition Jazz will work on combination skills and choreography, with more focus on harder technique, power moves, and flexibility training.
Lyrical/Contemporary
Competition Lyrical/Contemporary will contain technique, skills, and partner work all meant to draw the audience in to the performance. Dancers will continue to advance their musicality and self-expression through the choreography.
Solo/Duo/Trio
Competition dancers may be invited to compete with a solo, duo, or trio for the season. Please speak with an instructor to sign up for a time slot.
POLICIES
Parent Viewing:
Parents will not be allowed in the classroom during class time as it can become a distraction to our dancers. This policy is for all ages. We will invite parents in to watch at the end of certain classes and let you know ahead of time so that you can be present.
Bathroom Policy:
Parents of little ones, we ask that you or a designated adult be responsible for all of your child's bathroom needs. Instructors will not be able to leave the classroom, and we believe this will maintain parents, instructors, and children's comfort levels. The best choice is to have your child use the restroom before class begins.
Fees:
Recitals, costumes, and competition fees are not included in this course.
