2025 Hybrid Credit Forward

Utica Community Schools, in conjunction with credit forward providers, is pleased to offer a hybrid learning experience to current secondary UCS students. This program will afford students an opportunity to earn an additional one-half credit toward graduation requirements per online course. Subject.com, GenNET Virtual, and Michigan Virtual are the only providers being accepted by UCS for credit forward.

Who would benefit from this program?

Students who are looking to complete a course for graduation requirements prior to the start of the 2025-2026 school year to open their schedules for other course work.

How does my child register for a course?

Students must meet with their school counselor to select the appropriate course to fulfill UCS graduation requirements. Students will be enrolled in one course at a time and may be enrolled in additional courses if time permits. Final semester exams must be taken in the presence of a UCS employee, students will earn a letter grade that corresponds to the UCS grading policy for the online course. Policy 6210 Electronic Course Credit. The letter grade will be reflected on the student’s high school transcript, class rank and GPA points.

When do classes begin?

Classes will begin on Friday, May 23, 2025, and will end on Friday, August 1, 2025. Students will need to begin working on coursework as soon as the course opens in May to complete the courses on time. No additional time can be given for these courses.

How often should my child work on this course?

The recommendation is at least 2 - 3 hours each day. This is a self-paced, computer-based course. While a teacher is available for assistance, direct instruction is not available. This requires students to be on task and self-motivated.

Can my child graduate from high school early because of the credits earned through the online learning experience?

No, these courses can only be used to meet graduation requirements but not to graduate early.

Will the final grade earned in this course appear on my child’s transcript?

Yes, a score of 60% or higher will be required for the student to receive credit for the course. The letter grade will be reflected on the student’s high school transcript, class rank, and GPA points.

If there is a final exam, can my child take the exam at home?

No, UCS Policy 6210 states, students will be required to take the end of the course exam provided by the electronic course agency in the presence of the UCS mentor or designee.

When can my child take the final exam?

Contact the credit forward mentor to schedule a time to take the exam during the summer school session

Can my child attend a summer school session to work on their credit forward course?

Yes, your child can attend any day throughout the summer school session.

Drop-in sessions begin on Monday, June 23, 2025, and end Friday, August 1, 2025

No session on Thursday July 3, 2025, or Friday July 4, 2025

Time: 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

Where can my child work on their course and/or take the final exam?

Will transportation be provided?

Yes, information will be provided in an email prior to the start of the summer sessions.

Will my child need their school computer?

Your child will need access to a computer, preferably their UCS issued student device.

If your child does not have their UCS student device due to end-of-the year turn-in, information regarding device pick-up will be provided in a follow-up email in late May 2025.

What if my child wants to drop the course? 

You must email your drop request to Community Education at: communityedquestions@uticak12.org no later than Friday, June 20, 2025. Students who show no activity in the course by June 25, 2025, will be automatically dropped from the course.
